Insecure Writer's Support Group: Dry Writing Spells Are Temporary
Writing is hard when you can't clearly see your screen. Just figured I'd throw that out there for those that don't know or missed my last post.
I had an appointment and found out my normal eye doctor left the practice so I had to deal with a new doctor. Which stressed me out. I have trust issues with doctors and it takes time for them to earn mine, so having one that had earned it sucks. He checked my eyes and saw some inflammation and put me back on the steroid drops I usually use when I have issues. But my right eye is still acting up. Sometimes it seems like it's getting better and other times I'm squinting at everything because it's blurry. This might be a sign my next normal eye appointment will end with a stronger prescription. But there is dryness mucking things up as well.
All this to say is not much writing gets to happen right now. But I also have to admit, not much writing has happened lately anyways. I got my monster hunting posts done for my newsletter, but on the fiction side? Anything I post has been pre-written last year.
The words just aren't in my head. Past me would have been stressing, but current me isn't for two reasons.
1: It's happened in the past. I've had dry spells with writing and freaked out about never writing another word. Then I did write. Usually after writing a blog post about it.
2: I just don't have the energy to stress about it.
Some good news as I write this post: Hubby had a job interview with a company! In February, a recruiter contacted him about a position. Then we heard nothing. Mid-March, the recruiter called and said the company had been busy and gotten behind and was he still interested in sending his info to them? He, of course, said yes, and the recruiter was great and helped him prep for the interview. Afterwards, the recruiter called back and said he thought it went well. Hubby interviewed with someone from HR to gauge if he was a good fit and they said we'd hear something Friday or Monday. Hubby and I both agreed he probably wouldn't hear something Friday as we found out the company was hiring for a few positions and we didn't, so we're hoping Monday he will get a call saying they want to move forward. (I'm writing and scheudling this on a Sunday after the first interview and before Monday. Hopefully, I will be back here editing this with good news and can delete this sentence.)
All this to say 100% of my mental energy has gone toward willing the universe to make this happen. If I tried to write something fiction, I swear the dialogue would all be about hoping for some sort of callback or wishing for a job. The main character would probably be on a quest to find a job.
As I've said in the past, life is being lifey and I'm, unfortunately, am not the type of writer who is able to channel stress into words. That'd be nice. I'd have so much written right now (well, if my eye didn't insist on being blurry.) But I'm not, so I have to make do with the fact that in the past dry spells have been temporary. This one will be, too. Until then, I guess I just have to work on knitting as I've been doing it for so long that I don't have to keep a close eye on my hands.
Today's post was part of the Insecure Writer's Support Group.
Created by the ninja captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh, it's a group for writers struggling with writing insecurity (AKA all of us) to gather and discuss their fears or to celebrate writing victories. If you are a struggling writer or need encouragement and friendship, join us. (Someone might have cookies!)

Fingers crossed for your husband! And sending you good eye vibes!
Hey, I'm sending a prayer up for you and your hubby. I get the rough times and am 100% behind you.
My eyes always give me problems in the spring until the oak pollen count goes down. I try to wait it out before making any major changes.
The quickest way to make myself want to write is having a schedule that keeps me from writing. LOL
Sorry about your eyes. You might need to go back sooner.
@Cathrina, thanks. My eyes have been better lately so I'm hoping I got over whatever it was.
@Crystal, thanks. Although, we didn't get good news on the job front.
@Melissa, I'm not sure if the weather is part of the problem or not. It's hard to tell sometimes with eye issues, especially common ones.
@Aelx, thanks. My eyes have been better lately with fewer blurry incidents.
@Yvonna, thank you, thank you.
